Why would my pc run this way?

My old pc had an AMD Athalon 2.16 GHz processor in it and had Windows Xp. My new one has an Intel Celeron 3.46 GHz processor and Windows Vista. I have a rather large collection of art, and when I go to access the folder on my new pc it takes forever to load the pictures. My old would load them in a few seconds. This pc takes like ten minutes. Is this because of Vista? If so, is there an option that would allow me to rememdy this? (Like maybe indexing the files or something.)

Answer:
It could be a ram difference not the processor, Vista takes up more ram then XP.
