First thing you want to make sure you find is a photographer you like.It seems that that is an obvious thing to consider.  But I have heard many horror stories as a San Diego wedding photographer of people choosing photographers they don’t get along with.  This creates problems several ways.  They could be stubborn and take photos they want rather than what you want.He/She might not be suited to work with you since he/she might not be able to bring out the best in you.Choosing someone that you like is the key.

Next thing would be for you to make sure that the photographer that you would hire has some style.That may sound vague.What I am saying is that since photography is an art.Go find someone who has the ability to put some artistry into your wedding photos so that the emotions during that day will be felt even by just looking at the pictures.  Obviously art is subjective and based on what a person likes.So go find a photographer whose style is the one that suits you most.  All my clients of my San Diego photographer service go through my portfolio so they can see what style of work I have.

Well as a San Diego wedding photographer I have seen the ways couples have gone about trying to choose ones.From my experience as a wedding photographer I’m going to show you some points to ponder when you are still undecided who to hire.

First of all you have to anticipate your budget.It would not do you any good if you find someone you like but is very expensive for you to afford. So first decide your budget and once you know that you can narrow your choices.  Of course since it is such a special day my opinion as a San Diego photographer is to now worry about price.Price should not be an object since we are talking about a photgrapher here that would capture the most magical day of a couples life. But if it is then you have to know what you can spend.Once you know the limit of your budget then it would be easier for you to look for a good photographer that you like.

After you have already determined the amount of money that you will spend on a photographer then it is time to look for one meticulously. It would be just like any kind of job.  If you owned a business would you just hire someone?Of course you would not do that and neither should you when looking for your wedding photographer.You would want to know if you are compatible personality wise.You would want to look at his/her work.  And from my experience as an event photographer San Diego, you want to see how much experience they have dealing with weddings. If you go and interview a lot of prospects then you should definitely find a photographer that you like.

Second as a San Diego photographer, I make sure to know the schedule of events.It is very important to take note of the schedule of events.  This allows the photographer to get ready to capture those moments.  By knowing when things are happening a photographer can anticipate shots.Not only the portrait shots but also the candid ones.Most of the time, candid shots are those that would really reflect the special moments that happened during that day.

Finally doing event photography in San Diego you should always be prepared. They should make sure they have backup film.They have to see to it that they are always ready with a backup camera in case the one in use gets broken. A backup is a must for any equipment that can be broken.The worst thing you wouldn’t want to happen as a photographer is when one of your equipments break.It would be terrible to miss taking shots when something breaks.Being always ready is the basic rule.If you are able to do so, you would have no problems taking pictures on that special event.

price. When it comes to finding a wedding photographer, the biggest upside to pricing is there is a lot of competition. Keep in mind that many photographers are willing to negotiate their price a little to fit what you need.

Their price might be an indication of how many years they have been in business as well. Now just because someone may have a lot of experience doesn’t guarantee they will be better. A final thing to think about when you prepare to make that decision is what kind of personality does the photographer have. Are they likely going to try call all the shots and decide on all your poses? Or will they let the bride and groom make some of the decisions themselves? Our first tip is a simple thing you can do and that is to have the couple and the families go and make a shot list.With a day that can be as hectic and chaotic as a wedding day, doing this will help when you are trying to organize all the group and family shots later on in the day.Imagine how wonderful it will be to just go down your list and know that you aren’t leaving anything out.

The second tip on our list is to not delete any shots.  In this day and age of digital cameras, most photographers use them.Great as they are, they might tempt you to delete a shot they may like that you don’t since it is so easy to do.Don’t even think of looking at the shots.Remember, what you think is a great shot, could be vastly different than what the couple thinks is a great shot.You never know, they might like all those so called un “professional shots.

A third tip to consider is making sure you get candid shots.A good photographer isn’t one who just takes the standard basic shots, like family shots, typical wedding shots, or whatever is the usual.  But they will also try and capture the emotions of the day through the shots of all the people that were there.It may include the things that go wrong also, like a flower girl making a wrong turn or the ring bearer not wanting to walk down the aisle.Every picture counts.

The fourth piece of advice is make sure you have back up equipment.  Do you even want to imagine having a camera stop working halfway through the day.Plan for the worst that could go wrong.  Being prepared will help you avoid that uncomfortable moment of not having a working camera to capture the rest of the day.

Last piece of advice, make sure you know the lighting of the wedding. The difference between the lighting in the church and the outside reception can throw you a curve ball, so just practice for all different lighting situations. Think about seeing if you can go to the locations of the big day and look for the best spots to take pictures as well as study the lighting needs.

For special days, most people want to capture those special memories with pictures, especially if it is a wedding, I know from first hand experience as a San Diego Wedding Photographer; so it is very important that you research the photographer you are going to trust for the job.  So why not ask friends and family for some recommendations.  Their recommendations will help you formulate a list of candidates for the job.

After you have accumulated a list of photographers you should visit their websites.  Check out events they have shot and determine whether or not that is the type of photography you are looking for.  Photographers who have online portfolios will save you a lot of time because then you can prequalify them instead of having to wait til your first meeting to see their portfolio.

Third, start to call up the photographers and conduct a phone interview.  Once you have narrowed your list of photographers down to about two or three you can call them up and begin your interviewing process.  You can then make an appointment to meet with the photographer and view their portfolios if you have not already viewed it online.  During these phone interviews it is important to ask questions.  The more specific you are with your question the better understanding you will get as to whether or not the photographer is the one you are looking for.  While on the phone you should ask the photographer to bring in his collection of coverage of one particular event so that you will know exactly what to expect from that photographer.

After you have met with your two or three possible photographers it is time to decide which one is right for you.  The key factors to remember when deciding on your photographer is to make sure your choosing the one that you like and the one that understands the vision you have about how you want your memories to be captured.  Before you make the commitment to the photographer make sure you have asked all the questions you had and have considered all the photographers policies carefully.  Once you feel you have found the perfect photographer for your event, then go right ahead and make the commitment.
