FIRST: if your laptop is filled with viruses, u have to try an online virus scanner (google online virus scanner) because if you install an anti virus software, it will get the virus in a second. THEN: the best anti virus software is the one you trust, not the one that x or y is telling you. P.S. If your laptop`s OS (windows i guess) is infected, it`s a big possibility the antivirus wont disinfect it, and you will have to reinstall the OS.

Is the free version any good? I have a McAfee and it is horrible! It keeps downloading stuff and I can’t stop it and it has slowed down my computer big time. I personally choose AVG 8.5, haven’t had any issues with it. But what ever you do don’t get any Norton products i recommend you stay away from them. There incredibly resource hungry and slow your computer right done when doing scans.

Try Kaspersky. It’s working pretty fine to me. Also, make sure you update it every time it asks you to say so. Normally, it won’t cost you anything.

every time my norton anti-virus thing scans my computer it scans half then freezes it completely. what does this mean?

Hello. While it is a good thing to do a complete system scan of critical areas of the hard drive, you may want to think about setting Norton to scan only incoming files such as email and attachments. You can instruct Norton not to scan the entire hard drive every time the system restarts. It should scan critical system areas with each reboot. But it sounds like Norton is doing a complete hard disk drive scan. Just ask it to not do that anymore, and if you need help operating the console please contact Symantec Custmer Service (or visit Symantec’s website to seek support). There you should find the support you need. They helped me, and they’ll help you too.
