Sleek, Compact And Versatile, The Gadget That Is A Phenomenon

The popularity of portable devices has spread far and wide. With more areas being covered by WiFi (wireless Internet access), portable devices become even more attractive. Portable devices include laptops, netbooks or the Ultra Mobile PC and portable media players. There are special softwares that can easily convert audio and video into the digital format for use in these portable devices. They are becoming indispensable gadgets at work, leisure and entertainment. The portable gadgets include digital audio players, digital video recorders, portable video players and personal digital assistant.

A portable media player (PMP) is an electronic device that can store and play digital media. It is a digital audio player that can also display images as well as play videos. Cell phones which have these capabilities are also called portable media player. The first widely sold portable media player was Archos in 2002. Almost all portable media players come with MP3 audio format while some also support the Windows Media Audio (WMA), WAV and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC).

Usually the images are displayed using LCD or OLED screen. Some players can record video using accessories. JPEG format is compatible on all players for display of images. Other file formats such as TIFF, PNG and GIF are compatible on some players such as the iPod series. Most of these players support MPEG-4 video format while some others are compatible with Windows Media Video (WMV) and AVI. Most players are able to transfer files between the player and the computer. Many electronic companies have been fast to bring out portable devices. Archos, a French company, for instance offers digital audio players, portable video players, digital video recorders and personal digital assistant. In 2007, the company released Archos Generation 5, a series of portable media players including Archos 705 160GB portable media player.

The hard drive, flash memory or microdrive is used to store the data. There has been a steady increase in the storage capacity going up to 320 GB in the case of the hard drive PMPs and up to 32 GB for the flash memory based PMPs. The storage capacity of PMPs can also be enhanced. Content transfer can be done using Secure Digital card, CompactFlash and Memory Sticks directly from external devices. The screen size of the display screen has risen to 7 inches. Resolutions vary from player to player and may go up to WVGA. The color depth ranges from 16-bit, which is normal, to 24-bit in some players. After the launch of the Touch Screen technology, many PMPs have integrated this feature into their players. Even more new features were integrated into the PMPs in the recent past such as the editors, game emulation, the simple camera and text readers.

Never Too Old for Cartoons

My cute little and adorable kids love cartoons, and, why not admit it, so do I, and I’m no kid. We like spending our evenings in front of the TV, or laptop, and watching some new cartoons. They’re more into “The PowerPuff Girls”, while I’m more into “Dexter’s Laboratory”, so we tend to argue a little, but we eventually come to an agreement.

I grew up watching cartoons from Disney, so my passion is understandable. I wanted to share this with them as well, but they seem to like watching Cartoon Network more than watching Cinderella. I eventually gave in, and started watching TV with them, but I’m still fonder of Disney cartoons.

Any time we go on holidays, the long journeys make them whine that they are bored, and they miss their cartoons, so they have asked me to buy them some player on which they could load their favorite episodes. First, I didn’t agree, but they kept on pleading and begging until I promised them I would get them an mp3 player with video capabilities.

I have come across the sansa view 8gb , which seems just perfect. Any child could easily use it, so I bought two, one for each girl, so that they wouldn’t fight on them. I loaded them up with their favorite cartoons, wrapped them, and made a beautiful surprise to my kids. Their happy dance when they opened the boxes and saw their new players was worth seeing!

Of course, now they don’t go anywhere without their new players. In no time at all they learned how to load cartoons and music on them, so I can watch my Disney films now, without having to argue with them. After I have uploaded some “Tom and Jerry” on their players, they asked for more, so maybe they’ll start enjoying Cinderella, too.

Buying a New Mp3 Player

I’m addicted to my mp3 player, or better said, to the music that’s on it. I must have it with me at all times. I take it with me when I go jogging, and even when I go to the local supermarket. I have had no problems with it and its warranty has long expired, but I don’t plan on changing it any time soon.

Things don’t always go according to plan, however, and my plan of not changing it flew out the window, at the supermarket. Or should I say, flew out of my pocket, like my mp3 player did when the headphone cable got caught in something.

When I saw it break into pieces upon hitting the ground, I knew I wasn’t going anywhere until I got a replacement. So back I went again, straight to the isle I knew mp3 players were on. One thing that surprised was that none looked like my old one. They all sported color screens and were quite big. I had no idea what to choose.

The zen v plus 2 gb that was on sale looked interesting and my wallet liked it too. Things on sale are usually good, or at least that’s what I think. When I heard from the lady at the cash register how quickly they’ve been selling, I was even more happy with my purchase. I liked its color and overall looks, and the visual improvement over my old mp3 player was obvious.

My decision seems even better now, after some time has passed and I’ve become more used to the player. It has so many things that my previous player didn’t have, that I wonder how I’ve lived without them for so long. The sound quality is also far superior to my older player, and I can’t even begin to compare them, when it comes to design. Another one of my great choices!
