What You Need to Know About Desktop Hardware

Over the years computers have definitely moved from being a luxury to being a necessity. Companies and citizens rely on these machines to be able to so their jobs. This technology is responsible for the innovations that have proliferated in past and recent years and that will continue to flourish in the future. It is not necessary to know the inner workings of your computer in order to use it successfully. If you want to know what it is comprised of, below is an overview of the topic.

You should be careful however, since some of these parts could damage your computer hardware.

Along with RAM and Hard Disk Drive, the CPU(Central Processing Unit) will determine the speed of your system. Single Core processors were the standard previously, but now you’ll want to get Dual or Quad cores, as they’re much faster.

The motherboard will be the most expensive part of your computer. This is what the essential components are connected to. Including the Hard Disk drive, RAM, CPU and there are add-on components with some kind such as sound and graphics card and the LAN port. It is not worth saving a couple dollars to buy lower quality and unknown brands on key components for the system.

Not many people are aware of the hard drive. Especially when they are using it intensively installing programs, and storing media files The more storage that a drive has, the greater number of files and programs can be saved on it. The files are yours to keep for as long as you want. Just for your peace of mind that your memory will still be able to take it. Delete files you don’t use any longer to create more disk space. If you want, you can upgrade your hard drive or use an external storage device such as a flash drive or memory card.

Data from the computer itself is stored on the Ram for a temporary period. This enables the CPU to perform at its optimum capacity. Shutting down the computer deletes any data on the RAM.

The images you see on your monitor are displayed in large part due to your graphics card. More and more changes are being made in this area of computers as well because of the number of active gamers out there.

Tips For Purchasing Computer Hardware

You don’t have to be a computer hardware expert to make a wise buying decision if you are equipped with some basic knowledge on both equipment and how to shop. Here is some information about the desktop wonder, as well as some tips on how you might want to go about buying it.

While you see computer programs and operating systems run, you cannot touch them; hardware is possible to see and touch. In contains the processor which is responsible for data processing; the hard disk drive that serves as the storage space for pictures and files; the RAM (Random Access Memory), that takes care of various tasks and maintains the smooth shape of the processes, the sound and graphics cards that let you possess clear photos in addition to sounds you’ll like; the motherboard, where all the parts are spread out and certainly the modem, for internet connection.

You should note the part that you need before you go to buy computer hardware. If your computer is running slowly you may need to switch out a few parts. Doing this gives you the chance to add to your savings. After all, everything else works like it should

If you already know your hardware requirements, going out and buying it will be a breeze. If you don’t have the money to spend on all of it, it makes even more sense. Your next step is to determine a budget. What is your price range for these parts? Canvassing first and then looking at the specifications is also common. You will find some hardware to be faster or have more storage. When purchasing a computer you should see what you need the computer for so you don’t buy one you don’t need. Consider purchasing a hard disk if you like to store files on your computer. If you take a lot of pictures, especially professionally, you’ll need a better graphic card. What you do depends on how you need to use your computer and what the requirements for that are.

Best gaming laptop manufacturer?

I’m looking for the best 13.3″ or 15.4″ laptop out there for under $2400. It has to have at least 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB Hard Disk Drive, Nvidia GeForce 9800M, Bluetooth built in, Wi-Fi a/b/g/draft-n, Vista Home Premium 64-bit, built-in webcam, 2 USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard 54/34, DVD-RW drive, and an extra battery. I’m looking for the best price/style/performance/reliability ratios, so that I can know I have a good system that will last a few years and still outclass most desktops. HP, Dell, Apple, Lenovo, Sony, Psystar, etc. basically all the mainstream manufacturers, all don’t work for the requirements. Sager, Alienware, Widow, etc, all the companies known only for their gaming computers, those work. None of the Dell XPS notebooks can currently have an Nvidia GeForce 9800M GT graphics chip or higher, yes you very well can have a gaming notebook that will outclass a gaming desktop, well yes the hardware does become outdated fast on laptops but the chips are all using now standard Intel and Nvidia sockets so the hardware will last a few years. As for the overheating and potentially higher risk of damage, I have all of that covered. My last gaming notebook had the same issues and all I did was put the laptop on top of some copper pipe that leads to a bucket of ice, since copper is a very good heat transfer device almost all the heat went right to the pipes and to the buckets of ice. I like the Qosmio X305 but it’s way to large and expensive. Ok I made my decision, I’m going to get an Alienware Area-51 m15x. Thank you all for your help, even though only the first answer was of any use at all.

Answer:
Alienware are pretty good. But can I convince you to get a desktop over a laptop? Laptop hardware gets outdated very quickly and for the most part cannot be upgraded. You will find yourself buying a new laptop for the same or higher price very soon. Desktops on the other hand are cheaper and individual parts can be changed when required. Gaming laptops often have heat transfer problems as well. + All the hardware in a smaller space means damage is more probable.

How to Fix a Damaged Disk

Are you tired of putting your favorite game in your X-Box only to learn that it’s damaged and won’t work right? If you’re like me, you’ve developed special attachments to your collection of movies and don’t like to see them destroyed. It’s even worse if your DVDs have important family events on them that can’t be replaced. Luckily, these problems can often be fixed. One great way to fix a scratched disk is to purchase professional software. The software will take the information from the scratched disk, retrieve the lost data and save it onto a hard disk drive so it can be recovered. This is actually the bestmethod of DVD, game disk, or CD repair if you’re willing to spend the money.

If you choose not to purchase software and would rather do it yourself, then a basic DVD repair kit is the best way to go. A disk repair kit generally comes with everything that you will need to fix your DVD. The materials consist of a DVD cleaning solution and soft white cloths. In order to repair the disk, you must first spray the DVD repair solution onto the scratches. Next, use your cloth to rub the disk using very short, straight strokes from the centre of the disk outwards. Do not bear down too hard because this could do more harm than good to the disk.

There is also a cheaper do-it-yourself way to repair a disk. All you need is some alcohol and a piece of soft lint free cloth. Gently dab the cloth into the alcohol, being careful not to drench it. After you have moderately dampened the cloth, take your DVD and rub the cloth on the disk using gentle, straight strokes. This is a great method for removing many scratches. In place of alcohol, you can use toothpaste, regular all-purpose house cleaners, and polishes to help repair your DVD, game disk, or CD.

The above options may work but the best way to save your DVDs is to use the SkipDR DVD Disk Repair Kit. The SkipDR can repair up to 50 disks. The SkipDR works by targeting the scratches that are causing the disk to skip, stutter, and not play. This is a very affordable device as well. You will [save hundreds of DVDs over a lifetime when using the SkipDR. The SkipDR does it for you in 3 easy steps: spray, spin, and shine. Check it out the SkipDR Disk Repair Kit.

why my hard disk drive is not detected while im re-formating my pc.?

i want to re-format my pc but the windows set-up says that it cannot continue the set up because it can’t detect my hard disk. how can i fix this problem. pls help…

Answer:
I’m assuming you’re trying to install XP. You’ll probably need SATA drivers. If there’s a floppy that came with your motherboard, press F6 during installation (see the message at the bottom of the blue screen for when to press) then insert the floppy.

Should You Try Data Recovery Yourself?

In recent times with the “Credit Crunch” beginning to bite a lot of people may well be tempted to try to repair or recover their data from a failed hard disk drive or memory stick. Alternatively they try to use recovery software, which is easily available on the net, can be paid for and downloaded online.

In most cases this software will be a hard drive recovery programme for a hard disk drive that has suffered from some form of logical table corruption and will not assist with

  1. Mechanically failed devices
  2. Degraded hard Disk Drives
  3. Devices with electronic failures

This software will of course not be able to help and if the drive is degraded or suffering from a mechanical failure attempting to run this software will in most cases cause further damage to hard disk drives, potentially making the disk unrecoverable.

Downloadable recovery software often seems like a good buy and can be quite reasonably priced but unfortunately it will not be able to help with as many hard disk problems and that is an important point to note. If you get it wrong you could lose your files forever!

There are of course a lot of IT experts around of course and you may even have some in your own business, but do they really know what they are doing when it comes to the serious issue of data recovery? You would think that your onsite IT support would be data aware bit this is quite often simply not the case.

In a typical case a drive was initially presented for diagnosis and duly diagnosed with a blown PCB – the drive seemed completely dead and would not spin at all. As an additional test a new PCB was placed on the board so that the response of the heads could be tested. The result of this test was that the heads appeared to have been “blown” by a power surge through the drive.

Upon further discussion, with the client, it transpired that the IT dept had decided to remove the HDD from the laptop and as it was an IDE device mount it as an external storage device by using an IDE connector. Unfortunately they plugged the HDD to the connector “upside down” meaning that crucially the drive received a huge power spike through it when the connector was hooked up to a PC.

It may well have been in this particular scenario that the actual problem could have been no more a few bad sectors on the disk, however due to a certain level of incompetence within this department what originally was more than likely a simple job for a data professional turned into a much more costly full drive rebuild.

Naturally the client is somewhat annoyed that his data, whilst probably still recoverable, is likely to cost much more and take longer in the recovery process.

Sadly this is not an isolated case and data recovery companies the world over will have a whol;e collection of stories where simple recoveries were turned into data disasters by the DIY and have a go brigade

So the moral of this is that whilst many people will look for a quick and cheap fix for their hard drive recovery problems, they really are best leaving it to the experts.

whats wrong with my laptop?

every time my norton anti-virus thing scans my computer it scans half then freezes it completely. what does this mean?

Answer:
Hello. While it is a good thing to do a complete system scan of critical areas of the hard drive, you may want to think about setting Norton to scan only incoming files such as email and attachments. You can instruct Norton not to scan the entire hard drive every time the system restarts. It should scan critical system areas with each reboot. But it sounds like Norton is doing a complete hard disk drive scan. Just ask it to not do that anymore, and if you need help operating the console please contact Symantec Custmer Service (or visit Symantec’s website to seek support). There you should find the support you need. They helped me, and they’ll help you too.
