Making our cars last longer
It is a brand new time period. The economy has changed.Because of it, a lot of Americans just are unable to make as many purchases as before. In terms of the car industry you can see it.With the auto industry seemingly always losing money, you have to know that it is because people just aren’t buying big items.
With that as a thought, a lot of Americans will be forced into having to keep their car a much longer times. Keeping a car longer will require maintenance. The better you are able to keep maintenance on your car will dictate how much longer it will last. So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.
One of the items that is easily overlooked is keeping your car running clean. Why is this important? Because if you don’t keep it running clean you could fail a smog test. If you fail a smog test you could be in for some expensive repairs. I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.
All you have to do is make sure you change the oil and oil filter regularly. Also make sure you keep it tuned up with regular tune ups.
Second issue not handled all the time is taking care of your brakes. You don’t really watch for it as much as you should. But all can agree that it is very important for the safety of all.But if you are not diligent in caring for them, this will be an expensive repair. I should know having to charge my clients to replace their brakes at my San Diego brakes shop.
Make certain that when you are using the brakes that you aren’t too hard on them. Be ready for all the stops and then you will be able to brake slowly. Also be sure there is enough bake fluids. This can help you save a bunch of money in repairs.
Do these couple of things and you will save a lot of money in repairs. When you have to keep your cars longer you will be glad you did.
How to save more money in a used car
Well the time of irrational exuberance is now long gone. For a lot of Americans excessive items like a new car is a thing of the past. Now in these times when a family is in need of a new car they have to look into a used car. This is clear by all of the money troubles the big three auto makers are having. There sales have gone way down.
But families will still be needing a form of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice. That alternative is used cars.
As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you are making a purchase of a used car, the last thing you want is a lemon. So by taking the time to perform a good inspection, you may avoid costly repairs.
So when inspecting these used cars here are a couple of big things to look for.First you will want to inspect the brakes. We do San Diego brakes in our shop.So I have seen firsthand that needing your brakes repaired is an expensive option. If you buy a used car where the brakes were not taken care of by the previous owner it can become expensive. Last thing you want is to have to replace the entire braking system. So be sure you have good brakes.
Second, you want to ensure that the car is running clean.Said another way, will it be able to pass a smog check. In my business I do smog test in San Diego. The last thing you are going to want is the purchase of a used car that needs some expensive repairs. Especially if those repairs involve emission problems.
If you purchase a car that can’t pass a smog test that isn’t good. It is a sign that the car wasn’t taken care of.What probably happened is they didn’t do any tuneups or oil changes. These could be the start of a lot more problems in the future.
If you just check out these few items you can save money. By not checking you can be in for some major repairs. When you are trying to save money I am sure you don’t want that.
The Need to Maintain Your Brakes
One of the things taken for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become almost like a routine and a mindless activity for some people. You see people doing all kinds of things like doing makeup, reading, or talking on the phone, etc. while driving.
But if you really thought about it, your life is on the line everytime you drive a car.Whether it is your fault or someone else’s, accidents happen.
One of the causes of accidents, although rare, is brake failure.Your brakes is definitely one of the parts of your vehicle that is very important. Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind. I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.
Your brakes is most definitely not in sight. But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on. Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, the safety of your life and maybe your family’s life could depend on it.
With that being the case, brake maintenance is relatively easy. You can either go to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to do it yourself.
Either way, the two main things you need to look at are the brake fluid level and the brake pad condition. If you are diligent in maintaining these two points, you will keep your brakes safe.
When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level. It is usually marked and has a ‘min’ line and a ‘max’ line.Make sure that the fluids are not below the ‘min’ line and you will not have any problems.
Also be sure that you see that the brake fluid is yellow in color and clear. If it is not, you will have to flush the brakes and replace it with new fluid.
Brake fluids maintenance are the easy part. The hard part of this will be the brake pads. For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.
Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.
If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Brake pads that are worn is hard to control or stop.
With your safety and your passenger’s safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if need be, get your brakes fixed.
Following these 2 maintenance steps will keep your car safe for every driving occasion.
Tricks to passing a Smog Test
In our day and age, the automobile is one of life’s necessities right up there with food and shelter. And with our current economy, most people are keeping their cars longer.
Well when this happens and your car gets older, there are some things about your car’s maintenance you are going to have to become aware of. I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop
One of those things is when your car needs a smog check. Until your car hits seven years old, most people don’t even think about it.
But beware, if you fail the smog test, what could of been a simple $50 smog test could suddenly become a $300-$400 repair.
When you need your vehicle to pass a smog test so you can renew your vehicle registration, here are some tips you can take so your inexpensive smog test, can pass with flying colors.
So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.
First, make every effort to ensure your vehicle is running right. If your vehicle is not running correctly, get it to an autor service shop as soon as possible so they can see if their is a problem. Then have it repaired before your smog check.
Second is an easy tip but you will find it is necessary and that is to take your car for a drive.Remeber when you are trying to pass the smog check, you vehicle’s burning of the fuel needs to be efficient and produce as little smog as possible. Well when your car is not properly warmed up, it may not have proper combustion. If that happens, you stand a chance of failing.Just drive it for a few miles, 10-15, and you will have it running as optimally as possible when you bring it in.
Third, start using fuel additives. This you do when you are filling your auto up with gas.You just put it into the gas tank. What’s going to happen is this gets the emmission levels lower because it cleans the intake of your car and exhaust paths. This allows the fuel and air to flow freely.
Fourth, have your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This small trick will make your vehicle have more stability when driven and more accuracy when you have the smog test. The overall emmissions improves in output because the engine is able to maintain a steady load.
Finallly, change your oil. If your engine oil needs to be changed and is contaminated, this could very well cause you to fail your smog test. Contaminated oils are high in hydrocarbons and that could cause the failed test.
Follow these tips about your car and you stand a good chance of passing with flying colors the smog test. Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.
Safety First with Brakes
There are parts to your car that you need to keep aware of. In this age of automated everything on cars, a common thing to happen is the maintenance of the car gets neglected. Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.
After all cars that were considered economic cars like Hyundai’s, are now state of the art machines, it’s not that hard to think nothing goes wrong.
That is a big mistake. There are still going to be parts of your car that need to be paid attention to and maintained. Most people take care of oil changes and things like that. Although that is important for the life of your car, what most people neglect is their brakes. Which is important to the life of themselves and their family.
So let’s find out how to know when it is time to change your brakes when they have become unsafe.
The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes. Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor. This is a bad sign and you have to go and replace your brakes immediately.
Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise. A condition called glazed is what causes this. This occurs when someone always brakes too much and casues the rotors to heat up. The rotors are then burned.
You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.
A third condition that happens to your brakes is vibrations. When your rotors or drums are warped, when you are braking this will cause a vibration. This occurs because of excessive heat and this makes them lose shape. When this happens, your rotor needs to be replaced.
A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling. What occurs when you are braking is your vehicle want to pull in one direction. This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly. This happens due to a fluid leak. To find out which side is leaking, you are going to need a mechanic to take a look at it. You take care of this by having the caliper replaced and getting all the air out of the brakes.
These are the common problems with brakes. When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.
When you take into account it’s your brakes which keep you from accidents, maintaining this part of your car you don’t want to neglect.
