Shack Out on 101: Lee Marvin is a cook named Slob at a seaside greasy spoon in this cold war classic.The waitress (Terry Moore) seems to be spending most of her time fending off the lecherous advances of almost all her co-stars, but in fact she is trying to stop nuclear sectets from leaving the country. For Love of the Game: Likable film for Costner as a player with a twenty year baseball career who looks back on the last 5 years of his life throughout an eventful end of season game. Successfully played for megastar value and emotion, however goes into additional innings for no obvious rationale, extending out a summarization that comes as no astonishment. Cast includes Kevin Costner, Kelly Preston, John C. Reilly, Jena Malone, Brian Cox, J. K. Simmons, and Vin Scully.  (137 minutes, 1999)

The Last Time I Saw Archie: Webb’s lone try at comedy is less ludicrous than some of his more earnest films; a shame, since William Bowers’ script-based on his own Army experiences had genuine potential, and Mitchum pleasantly underplays as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes, 1961)
