On PC’s this can be even more of an issue than other electrical items as there are generally a lot more moving electrical components inside PC’s than other products and therefore there is a lot more that could go wrong.

When looking into the personal computer market there are two main types of machine. PC’s which run on Microsoft software and Apple machines which run on their own brand of software. The price comparison between the two different brands is substantial but upon closer inspection there is a good reason for this. Although the Apple Mac’s are considerably more expensive this is generally because they use higher specification components to most PC’s. So at the end of the day they aren’t making any more profit than some of the PC companies but because the components used are of a higher standard, hardware maintenance is usually less.

Why is hardware maintenance less, well it is quite simple. If you build something out of cheap components then those components on average will fail before the higher grade components simply because they haven’t been built or manufactured to the same tolerances as other components.

Obviously you can’t guarantee that you will never have to perform any hardware maintenance on Apple products but they do appear to be more reliable in every aspect of their setup. Viruses are rarely linked to Apple Mac machines, while on the other hand you can hardly log onto a PC machine these days without the need for virus and firewall software to stop the torrent of hackers from breaking in the various backdoors that the software leaves open.
Of course if you work in the IT industry you would be hoping that the world doesn’t wise up to this realisation as you could find yourself out of a job. The unreliability of the machines has managed to keep several people in work for years. The only saving grace for the PC industry might be that the expense of the Apple machines is currently pricing them out of the market.

If you feel you are spending too many hours fixing your machines, calling up IT support then why don’t you consider a switch to Apple machinery. You might just find that it will save you money in the long run.
